About Kenneth

I'm the guide to English as a Second Language at About.com part of the New York Times Company (http://esl.about.com ). I've lived in Germany and Italy and speak both of the languages fluently, so I'm familiar with the challenges language learners face. I live in Portland, Oregon which I love because it's got everything I like about cities, but it's not too big. I think the most important thing about using English is .... using English. It doesn't matter whether everything you say or write is perfectly correct or not. The only way to improve is to take the road to get there. Of course, that doesn't mean working towards more fluent language usage isn't important. On the contrary, we all want to improve. The point is we need to engage in using the language to pragmatically bring about progress.
