The Pink Ribbon Day on October 1st in Tokyo!
Posted on: 01 Oct, 2009 07:15 PM
October 1st was the Pink Ribbon Day for breast cancer
For a few years, the symbol of Tokyo, Tokyo Tower, has been lit up in pink only at the night.
How about in your countries?
Do you have the Pink Ribbon, Breast Cancer, Day?
I've gone for regular checkups and mammograms for the past 14 years since I got married. I know my ex-Spanish dancing teacher had suffered from breast cancer on her both breasts and had to be taken them out by surgery; so, it is a real world.
If you are female readers, do you take breast cancer annual check up?
If you are male readers, have you recommended to take the check ups to your wife, girlfiend, daughter, partner, ...any women close to you?

Important topic to bring up. It is a little known fact that men
also suffer from breast cancer with about 350 cases diagnosed in
the UK every year.
Rob.
Hi, MrTESOL!
Thank you for you 2 suggestions; oh boy, careless misses...!
Really? I didn't know that men also suffer from breast cancer. I'll
have to tell my husband to have some check ups from now....

Breast cancer is one of the major diseases threatening women's health even lives. Shanghai where I live has a large number of people who have developed the breast cancer. The local government issues numbers regarding breast cancer on a yearly basis. I forgot the exact number of women who developed the cancer but what was sure was that the ratio among Shanghai's women was pretty high.
I will remind my wife how serious the situation is and recommend that she goes for regular checkups.
Thank you very much for the wake-up call.
Hi, Leslie!
A great husband that you will remind your wife on how serious the
breast cancer is!
My Spanish dancing teacher in my childhood had a surgery to operate
her both cancered-breasts. It was a real life. She is a tough woman
so even after that she insert silicon to both breasts and dance
flamenco.

In England, October is breast cancer awareness month (BCAM). There are lots of activities in cities across the UK. I have taken part in walks and other activities to raise money breast cancer at my college. Our college sets at day to organize an event, orders pink T-shirts, ribbons, badges, hats etc for the event. Many teachers take part on the day.
This year the official wear it
pink day on October 30th.
Hi, Creatvie!
I now understand that October is the global breast cancer month
since Japan is the part of the organization, the Pink Ribbon
activities.
Good for you to take part in walks! My women's wellness clinic is
also the part of the organization so I see many pink ribbon
goods.

In America, there is much awareness (also with the pink ribbon symbol) about breast cancer, but I do not think we have a specific day devoted to the cause. There is a national awareness month however: http://www.nbcam.org/
There are many fundraising events (runs, bike rides) for breast cancer.
Is the Tokyo Tower pink every night? What a striking
image.
Hi, Sam! Sorry for not having written any article.
Thanks for the HP; I visited it. Yeah, I now understand the Pink
Ribbon is a global activity.
The Pink Tokyo Tower is the only one day thing; yesterday was
the Olympics' color since we were one of the 2016 Olympics
candidates.
I'll write about it at the next article...; congratulations to Rio
de Janeiro, Brazil, where I voted for!
